JAIN College - VV Puram introduced the Humanities program for the academic year 2022-2023. The program aims to cater to I PUC students having an inclination towards Humanities as a stream and welcomed learners in great numbers. The seven-day orientation program for the Humanities stream began on 30 June 2022.
Dr. Chenraj Roychand, Chancellor - JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) and Ms. Aparna Prasad, Director - Communications, Human Resources, and Student Fee Services, graced the occasion as chief guests for the inaugural program. After the official opening, students had an introduction to the Knowledgeum Academy, JAIN P U College (VV Puram), and the Jain Group of Institutions. Mr. Jagadish Chandra's discussion in the following session was centred on the depth, importance, and aspects of the humanities. He also made a point of saying that studying the humanities does not protect one from the massive advancements. Later, Dr. Abhishek Venkateshwar discussed the humanities program's structure and addressed the students' questions about it. Dr. Abhishek led an icebreaker game to wrap out the first day.
Day two started with a talk by Mr. Jagadish, who spoke about the importance of equipping oneself in the age of credential inflation and the topic of holistic skilling. The following class, led by Dr. Abhishek, focused on the value of multitasking and public speaking abilities. Later, Ms. Vishnupriya included English as a topic to the PU, emphasising inquiry-based critical reading and thinking. The IB programme orientation followed her session.
The third day began with Mr. Jagadish introducing to the students the concept of the Humanities Lab. Ms. Meenakshi Shanmugam conducted a session on grooming and etiquette. Dr. Abhishek spoke about economics to the students and gave them an idea of what they would learn in this subject. The last session for the day, Artist of the Year, the day's final session, featured singing, acting, dancing, and painting.
On day four, Dr. Abhishek briefed the students about the structure and functions of various clubs running under the department. This was followed by the Theatre Club orientation by Ms. Vishnupriya and Ms. Vandana. Ms. Vandana later spoke about the relevance of historical studies in the history orientation session. Ms Ipsita Bannerjee covered the orientation of political science. A competition for photography and filmmaking brought the day to a close.
Day five started with a lesson on the value of life skills, and then Ms. Vishnupriya introduced research literacy. During his sociology orientation session, Mr. Jagadish discussed the goals and characteristics of sociology. The session concluded the Journalist of the Year competition.
On day six, Ms. Chandana introduced psychology as a subject taught in schools and talked about prevalent myths surrounding the subject. Later, Mr. Jagadish in his session tried to look into something with a whole vision - perspective. Some activities focused on establishing methods of looking at events and phenomena wholly and newly with fresh insights. Dr. Abhishek talked about the event's theme, "Explore," for the following day. The students then had separate sessions with their respective mentors.
On the final day, the event, Explore, was organised in which students displayed their talents and skills. Dr. Chenraj Roychand and Ms. Aparna Prasad were invited as the chief guests for the event. Parents were also invited, and at the conclusion of the session, they shared their thoughts and recommendations.
