At PUC level, the subjects offered in Humanities are History, Political Science, Sociology, Economics, Psychology, English Literature, and Philosophy. In PUC, English as a first language and a second language option between Hindi, Kannada and Sanskrit are compulsory subjects. Besides this, students can choose the following subject combinations -

Subjects in Arts

English

The subject has prose, poetry, drama and essays. The subject emphasises writing, comprehension and critical analysis skills. The subject aims to improve the student’s language and communication skills. 

History

In History, students will study, medieval, ancient and modern history, covering the significant events, important people, civilisations, and socio-political changes. Students will learn the important dates, significant movements and evolution of human society through the various ages. 

Political Science

In political science, the student will learn foundational concepts of government structures, political processes, international relations and public policy. They will study the notable political theories, systems and institutions. 

Economics

Here the student will study prominent economic theories and principles. The main topics lay a strong foundation for studying the subject further in college. These include Microeconomics, macroeconomics, economic policies, and global economic issues.

Psychology

Psychology covers the study of human behaviour and mental processes. In this subject, students will study Developmental, cognitive, social, and abnormal psychology, as well as research methods and applications.

Sociology

The focus of this subject is on studying social behaviour and societal structures. The syllabus covers the study of social institutions, relationships, and issues such as inequality, culture, and social change.

Philosophy

In Philosophy, one will visit fundamental questions about existence, knowledge, and ethics. Through the syllabus, a student will study major philosophical thinkers, theories, and concepts in logic, ethics, metaphysics, and epistemology.

English Literature

Literature is the study of literary texts and genres. The syllabus covers a detailed analysis of novels, short stories, poetry, and plays from various periods and regions.
