The Introduction of Model United Nations (MUN) to the Humanities Students

The Introduction of Model United Nations (MUN) to the Humanities Students

In a classroom simulation of the United Nations called Model United Nations (MUN), students assume the roles of delegates from various nations and work to resolve real-world problems using the ideologies and viewpoints of the nation they represent. The MUN Club of the Department of Humanities functioning under JAIN College organised the event, Club Hour Activity, on 13th September 2022.

The session began with the head of the MUN Club, Dr. Abhishek Venketshwar, along with a student explaining to attendees the functions and working model of the club. Then, among the three houses of Nalanda, Takshashila, and Pataliputra, a mock MUN session was held. Each house was designated a country. The Sri Lankan issue was on the agenda, and the participants included the USA, China, and India. Delegates made their opening statements and speakers from each country went on to either support or criticise the impact of the crisis on their countries. The session also discussed the participation of these countries in helping the Sri Lankan community to overcome the crisis. India and USA did not support China's claim of being an ally to Sri Lanka without an ulterior motive.

The session concluded with a video on MUN which further enlightened the students on its functioning and significance.
